a Master of Djinn, Animated Teaser (2024)

a Master of Djinn

You might have heard of the book "a master of djinn" but how would it look if it had an animated teaser. Well look no further, I have it right here.

As the story I wanted to feel earthy, full of fantasy but still mechanical. So with research towards materials, I arrived at linocut. With this technique I don't just feel connected to the story, it is also an interesting way to work with any story.

For the animation and the time given, making a full animation with linocut was impossible, but I did create it digitally in the style. It creating a interesting animation in movement and looks.

For the planning of the animation, I worked through storyboarding in thumbnail sketches. This allowed me to quickly map out the sequence of events, focusing on composition, movement, and pacing without getting caught in detail.

Through these small frames, I explored how each scene would transition into the next, considering how the viewer’s eye would move and how the narrative would unfold visually.

The thumbnails acted as a guide throughout the process, bridging the initial concept and the final animation, while still leaving room for experimentation and change.
